6.Mount Nasu

Nasu_chausudake-1024x683 ©Uraomote yamaneko The hillside of Nasu Highlands. The highlands between Mount Chausu to Mount Asahi is covered with Maple and oak trees with red leaves. The main peaks of Mount Nasu, there is a trail road built around Mount Chausu, it has the most beautiful view.

7.Agatsuma Valley

On the both sides of the 4km long valley, there are distributions of oddly shaped stones and rocks, there many scenery like waterfalls and other beautiful landscape! It is one of the famous attraction to see red leaves. The best time to visit is during autumn. The place is surrounded by Maple trees, oak and red pine which changes its color with the seasons. The huge rocks and waterfalls makes Agatsuma Valley known as the “Kanto Yabakei”. The later in autumn it gets, the redder the leaves get. It is the best place for couples to have a walk. The most attractive park is where the 3 meters wide and 50 meters deep valley is, where clear water is flowing in swirl motion.

8.Oze

The red leaves on the marshland is known as grass red leaves, the land would shines during mid-September to early October. By the end of September to mid-October, the red and yellow wide-leaf trees against the background of green conifers, the scene is like a beautiful picture. Oze marshland is well known for its 800 types of species of plants, it is the largest wetland in Japan which is also surrounded by forest.

How to get there [Train] JR Numata Station, take a bus towards Oze National Park or Tokura, about 1 hour and 20 minutes, get off at Tokura, change to minibus towards Hatomachitoge, it would take 30 minutes to reach, later walk about an hour to reach Yamanohana [Car] Off the road Numata IC, take National Route 120 to Kamata for about 45 minutes, take National Route 401 to Tokura for about 15 minutes. Due to the private cars’ rules and regulation, take a minibus towards Hatomachitoge, it would take 30 minutes to reach, later walk about an hour to reach Yamanohana.

9.Mount Takao

In 1967, it was designated as the Meiji Mori Takao States National Park, there are 1,200 plant species, about 100 species of wild birds, and in habitant insects about 5,000 species in the park. During autumn, the maple leaves cover the hilltop and it will last for a month, climbers get a beautiful view during their hike. There is a cable car which operates from Kiyotaki Station to the 472 meters high Mount Takao Station. Along the way, the road tunnel is covered by large maple leaves.

10. Lake Ashi

Due to the high land level, the leaves start to turn red since mid until late November. During this season, it is accessible by boat or hiking to watch the unique maple tree leaves and red leaves from Lawn Pennywort Herb. You can always watch the red leaves from Kanagawa Park and Lake Ashinoko, if the weather is good, you may be able to overlook Mount Fuji.
