Thought after the cherry blossom season in April, no other flowers are good? Of course not, cherry blossom is just the start of the spring, now in Japan everywhere are flowers; Shibazakura, wisteria, roses and so on. Today we will introduce a place for Azaleas viewing and the place is still not widely known by tourist. 『What? Azaleas!!!』 Hong Kong has Azaleas already. What’s so special? Right, Hong Kong also has Azaleas but have you ever seen a whole mountain grows of Azaleas?
Nisiyama Park is located in Sabase Shi of Fukui Prefecture. There grow over fifty thousand of Azaleas. The planting is very thoughtful, different colors Azaleas are mixing together to create a new beautiful flowers painting.
Flower paths – have the zero distance contact with Azaleas
Traditionally, the flowers viewing area is circled with fence that visitors are not allowed to entry. However, in Nishiyama Park, there are many paths, visitors can walk to the spots that they like to view the flowers. Visitors can also get into the flowers to have a zero distance contact with the flowers. When I was there, I saw many Japanese girls squatted next to the flowers to selfie with their own selfie stick.
Free Zoo – A prefect place for family
Nishiyama Park has many facilities. Nishiyama Zoo is one of them. It is a nice place to go and it is free. Many parents bring their children there in weekend.
Once entering the zoo, you will see the cute black head squirrel monkeys. It is funny that the monkey’s walking path is over the roads of the visitors. So the park has a signage to remind visitors to watch out “poo” may drop down over their head.
The most representative animal of the park should be the Lesser Pandas. There are 10 Lesser Pandas in the park. For people who like lesser Pandas, you can visit the zoo after your flower viewing.
High Observation deck to view the Sabase Scenery
After leaving the zoo, walk up to the hill; you will reach the observation deck. The observation deck is not enclosed. It is so comfortable to enjoy the breeze, while viewing the Sabase city’s scenery.
I have been viewed the Fuji Shibazakua, Furano’s flower seas, they are beautiful for sure. However, personality I think they are not comparable with the Nishiyama’s Azaleas. Photos and videos are not able to convey the beauty and impressiveness completely. You have to experience it in person. This year the estimated blooming time of the Azaleas is around 5/22, so if you want to go, be quick.
This time the place that we introduced is Fukui Prefecture in Hokuriku. Places in Hokuriku may not as accessible as Tokyo, Osaka such big cities. However, after the Hokuriku express starts operating, going to Hokuriku is not that difficulty as imagine. For people who use the JR National Pass, you might plan to visit Hokurik, where have Kanaawa and Tateyama Kurobe, they are more familiar to tourist.
