One of the difficult part in travelling is buying souvenir, most of the famous souvenir can be found anywhere in the world, or those boring souvenir (for example, Tokyo Banana. Though in most of the attractions, there will be one or two must buy confectionery, but once you remove the packaging, it looks like any other ordinary cookies that you can find in the supermarket. When your friend received it from you and her reaction would be: “Oh, you went to this XXXX!” very few of them would say it is delicious, similar to the author, I don’t find many souvenir delicious.
Gateau Festa Harada even the Japanese went for the queue, though it is that bad now, it is still very packed, sometimes you have to queue for it still.
If you are looking for unique souvenirs, pretty packaging with a decent price, unique and tasty, I would recommend you a chain confectionery store – Gateau Festa Harada！All the Gateau Festa Harada stores are uniquely different, most people go to Ikebukuro in Tokyo, Umeda in Osaka, Daimaru in Kyoto, Hakata in Fukuoka and etc., but there is always a long queue outside the store. Gateau Festa Harada was founded in 1991, it is also one of the popular gifts among the Japanese, and even the Emperor of Japan loves it. It has a beautiful packaging and it tastes good, the important point is that the store likes to have limited edition promotion, especially black and white chocolate Gouter de Roi which is only available in the winter, and Gouter de Roi Soleil which only sells from January to April!
The most popular Gouter de Roi Soleil, only sells from mid of January until April, it also uses the most expensive ingredient.
This Christmas edition only sell from November until end of December, it’s a good choice for Christmas gift!
Even though Gateau Festa Harada portraits themselves as a high end brand, but the prices are very reasonable, most of the gift box range from 1000 to 4000 YEN. Every package has its unique style, and everything is individually packaged, there is also mini gift box, easy pack option, very convenient as a gift. Even though it still lacks of its taste when in compare to freshly baked cookies, but as a gift or souvenir, it is worth it! If you haven’t heard of it, it is worth the visit, in October, November, they will start selling the chocolate edition (the store is said to be consider that chocolate will melt in the summer, hence it is only available for sale during the winter and this is how considerate Japanese are).
Lastly, a personal recommendation, the author’s favorite is the Crunch Chocolate Bar , it is very delicious, different from those normal chocolate almond bar. /p>
Of course, if you don’t have the time to que up, you can purchase them via their online shop, but you won’t be able to experience the physical store…
